Dieter Kiessling’s works are the result of a conceptual method which goes along with a strong (media-)reflection and intellectuality and at the same time doesn’t exclude experiment and coincidence. Within his photographs and videos he alienates the technichal functions of filmic devices. This happens on the one hand on the apparative level and on the other hand within the filmic material itself. So far his videos and installations are lesser a cause for aesthetical sentiment, than an origin for irritation of perception and expectation.
60 Minutes, 360 Degrees, G. K. (Still)
2010
video installation, 60 min, loop
A boy is portrayed with a video camera for an hour on a tennis court. During this time, the camera turns through 360 degrees. Meanwhile, the whole space is recorded piece by piece. The boy follows the camera movement slowly, thus remaining constantly in the centre of the picture..

Video-installation
Total Museum of Contemporary Art, Seoul Korea, 2006
A video-picture is projected by a video-projector onto a wall. The picture shows a slow camera-movement across the photograph of a class of schoolgirls from 1904. The extreme close-up shows both the photograph’s many scratches and damages and the girls‘ faces, which, considering their age, are unusually serious and determined. The video is 6:30 minutes and is presented in an uninterrupted loop.

Dust 2 (Still)
1996 / 2000
Video-installation, Kunsthalle Düsseldorf, 2000
The video-installation is shown in a darkened exhibition room. The video-camera records dust particles floating in the video-projectors beam of light. The camera transmits an inverted image of this dust-particles directly to the video-projector that projects this image on the wall. The floating dust particles appear as dark specks against a bright backround.
